Story of Sacrifice
Qurbani is an animal sacrifice in recognition of the Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) own willingness to sacrifice his son for the Will of Allah (SWT). At the last moment, Allah (SWT) replaced Ibrahim’s (AS) son with a ram, saving his life and rewarding Ibrahim’s (AS) devotion. That is why Muslims give Qurbani, and in doing so, distribute the meat to the most needy.
Why thousands trust International Islamic Youth League IIYL to give their Qurbani?
The Animals
We source healthy animals locally in the area (if appropriate) where the Qurbani will be distributed. This helps local farmers and their communities.
The Sacrifice
The animals are slaughtered directly after Eid prayers by local Imams who pronounce the names of the donors (if requested) before they begin.
The Packaging
International Islamic Youth League IIYL employs local people to cut the meat in allocated warehouses, which is then packed in crates and delivered to distribution areas–there, the meat is bagged in 2.5kg portions ready for distribution.
The Distribution
Local communities are selected where people hardly eat meat during the year, and priority is given to local widows, orphans and low-income families.

2026 Qurbani Meat Distribution to support Vulnerable and the Needy in Africa

Qurbani 2026
Giving Qurbani is an important part of Eid Al-Adha. The word Qurbani derives from ‘Qurb, which means ‘nearness. Qurbani must be given on the 10th, 11th, or 12th day of Dhul Hijjah after the Eid prayer. No animal sacrifices can be made before the Eid prayer.
In giving Qurbani, we commemorate the sacrifice that Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was willing to make for the sake of Allah (SWT), sacrificing his son, Ismail (AS). Allah (SWT) swapped Ismail (AS) with a sheep which was slaughtered instead.
The animals that can be slaughtered for Qurbani are:
Sheep
Goats
Cows
Camels
All of these animals must be healthy and have reached a certain age.
